Nonocross Answers Explained

Nonocross is a nonogram: a grid where the numbers along each row and column tell you how many squares to fill and in what runs. Fill them correctly and a picture appears. This archive holds all 60 puzzles, and rather than describing what each picture shows, it draws the solved grid with the clue numbers running down both axes exactly as they appear in the game.

That matters more here than in a word game. Knowing that puzzle 10 is an apple does not help you finish it — seeing which squares are filled does. Every puzzle page renders the complete solution at readable size, with the heavier guide lines every five squares that nonogram players use to count, so you can compare it against your own grid mid-solve and find the row you got wrong.

The archive also records the shape of each puzzle: its dimensions, how many squares are filled, and the resulting density. Puzzles run from small 3×3 tutorials up to detailed 10×10 pictures. Read the clue runs

A clue of 4 means four filled squares in a row with no gap. A clue of 1,4 means one, then at least one blank, then four.

Start where the clue is largest

In a six-wide row, a clue of 6 fills the row outright, and a clue of 5 guarantees the middle four squares whichever way it slides.

Mark the blanks too

Squares you have proved empty are as useful as filled ones. Marking them is what turns a guess into a deduction.

Solve the full rows first

Any row or column whose clue equals its width is completely filled. These are free squares and they give every crossing line a starting anchor.

Use overlap on big clues

In a 10-wide row a clue of 8 has only three possible positions, and the middle six squares are filled in all of them. Overlap gives you certain squares without guessing.

Count the total

Every puzzle page shows the filled-cell count. Add up your own filled squares — if the total does not match, you have an error somewhere, even if each line looks right.

Mark empties with a dot

Nonograms are solved as much by proving squares blank as by filling them. Most stuck grids are stuck because the blanks were never marked.

Work the crossings

A square is decided by both its row and its column. When a line stalls, switch to the perpendicular clue rather than guessing.

Check the density

The density figure tells you what share of the grid is filled. A puzzle at 72% is mostly ink, so blanks are the rarer and more informative thing to find.
