Dense boards are finished with short words. Work every three-letter option before hunting anything unusual.

If the set holds a J, Q, X or Z, the answers containing it are few and worth finding early.

Dense boards are won on short words

The long answers come quickly. What stalls a Word Madness level is the run of three-letter words threaded between them.

Check the length spread

Every level page shows the longest and shortest answer. A wide spread means the letter counts will do most of your filtering.

Try the endings on every stem

S, ED, ER and ING turn one found answer into several. On dense boards this is the single most productive habit.

A doubled tile is usable twice

Where the set repeats a letter, one answer may use both. Do not rule a word out on that basis.

Work the rarest letter first

It appears in the fewest words, so it narrows the board faster than any vowel.

Compare against the count

If the level page says twenty-three answers and you have nineteen, you are looking for four short words, not one obscure long one.

On import each record is validated before it is allowed through: a puzzle missing its core data is left out of the archive instead of being published incomplete. That is why the count reads 5,999 rather than a rounder marketing number.
